Uefa 2011 match on here

For the second year running, the final will be contested by two actual champions, with the kings of Italy and Germany battling it out at the Bernabeu Stadium. It’s set to be an enthralling encounter between two teams whose contrasting styles make it difficult to predict who will come out on top.

The bookmakers give the edge to Internazionale, a team managed by the irrepressible Jose Mourinho. The former Chelsea coach is possibly the best in the business, especially as the team’s route to the final involved beating both Chelsea and Barcelona over two legs. Inter will now feel as though it’s their destiny to win the competition and William Hill offer 13/10 that they win in ninety minutes.

Then again, the Italian champions face a different sort of challenge from a Bayern team who ran riot against Lyon in the semi-finals. The French team had previously accounted for Real Madrid, although Munchen went to the Stade Gerland and won 3-0. Louis Van Gaal’s team knocked out Manchester United in the quarter finals and the ‘typical Germans’ are 23/10 (Paddy Power) to win the Champions League final in normal time.

There’s a strong possibility that defences will be in the ascendancy on Saturday night, especially with Mourinho keen to nullify the threat of Arjen Robben, a player that was in the Chelsea squad that the Portuguese manager had. Nevertheless, the Dutchman has arguably been the player of the tournament and it would be fitting to see him open the scoring (8/1 Ladbrokes). The Dutchman can score from any range as he proved in previous round against United, Fiorentina and Lyon.

Mind you, his compatriot Wesley Sneijder is something of a dead ball specialist and is certainly Inter’s most creative player. The midfielder is 10/1 (Stan James) to break the deadlock, while team-mate Diego Milito (11/2 William Hill) will have to be carefully watched considering he has scored 28 goals for his club this season. He will be partnered in attack by Samuel Eto’o (6/1 bet365), a player who opened the scoring for Barcelona in the final twelve months ago.

Perhaps Inter will have the edge considering that UEFA decided to uphold Franck Ribery’s three game ban, a decision which will see the influential Frenchman miss the final. With Inter having such an excellent keeper in Julio Cesar and a back four which proved their worth at the Nou Camp, the 5/2 (Paddy Power) that the Italian champions ‘win to nil’ could be an excellent bet. Blue Square offer 13/2 that they achieve a 1-0 victory, something which would be a fitting swansong for Mourinho if he is to leave the San Siro for Real Madrid in the summer.
